This house is a modern interpretation of the charming beach houses of Ocean Beach, NY and a place where the essence of beach life is celebrated.
A grand stair case leads you to an intermediate deck, a mid point meant to invite street life to a house that has been elevated due to flood zone restrictions.
The organization of the house is turned upside down with the private bedrooms on the first floor and the public spaces on top to maximize ocean views. In the middle is flexible living space- an extension of the surrounding exterior spaces as much as it is an interior collection and pass-through zone. Central to the house design is the ability for this house to serve as a private single-family home as well as a social setting where multiple families and friends can stay to enjoy the beach.
The lofted zig-zag metal roof with full-length skylights provides maximum interior height and an opportunity for dynamic and stunning display of natural light. Full-height windows, too, create framed views of each sunrise and sunset.
